Do you have enough of what you need to be happy? What else do you need? Money? A job? What is it? We can lose ourselves in the fear of not having enough–the fear of scarcity. Scarcity is a tight fist in the center of your heart with frozen fingers. Is it possible to loosen its grip? Is it possible in the middle of this economic fear-fest to feel abundant?

Here is a simple exercise to help you loosen the grip of scarcity from your thinking. It can help you feel abundant in a different way.
Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit. Close your eyes and begin taking slow, deep breaths. You may even want to count at first to make sure you are breathing slowly. Breathe in 1, 2, 3, 4 through your nose and breathe out 1, 2, 3, 4 through your mouth. As you establish this slower rhythm, focus your attention on your own Awareness. Let your stories about scarcity grow quiet and begin to picture, instead, that you are breathing in abundance. Imagine that your breath is your life and you are breathing it in deeply. Picture your body being fed by this oxygen. Now exhale through your mouth and picture all the fear and scarcity leaving you. You are filling up with abundance and emptying yourself of fear. Picture all your worries about scarcity flying right out of your mouth and disappearing like steam into the air. Breathe out the fear of the mortgage. Breathe in relaxation. Breathe out the fear of losing your job. Breathe in trust and confidence in your ability. Breathe out to release the scarcity; Breathe in to fill yourself with abundance. Do this for as long as it takes to feel completely full of abundance. Breathe in until you feel as if you will burst with abundance if you take another sip of this wonderful elixir! Do you have enough air? Of course, you do! Every breath you take is abundance, and there is plenty more where that came from.
Now picture yourself breathing in light. At first this light is misty, but instead of it being comprised of water molecules, it is filled with light molecules instead. As you breathe in you become weightless. You can see yourself actually lifting out of your chair. As you breathe, and as you lift higher and higher, the light mist becomes denser and brighter. Soon it becomes so dense that you cannot even see your arms, legs and feet. You dissolve into the cloud of light; you are the light—breathe it in and shine. You are totally at peace, relaxed and abundant. You want nothing—there is nothing to want in this radiant peace. This is what you have yearned for and finally found. This is the voice that whispers in the back of your mind. This is the connection that is behind all the other things you want. Let this quiet, peaceful cloud of light in which you have everything you need fill you as if you were a thirsty sponge. Feel it saturate you. Let every cell of your body soak up the light and radiance of this cloud. Breathe in; breathe out. This is abundance. Do you have enough air? Of course you do!
And if, in this moment, you can clear your mind of all your stories of scarcity, fear and yearning, you will surely see the world, unobstructed. You will see what binds us all together. You will see the love that permeates us all.
This is the essential, abundant connection to your spiritual self; re-connecting to this limitless source of love and peace can set many other things in motion in your life. Opportunities arise from this connection that you did not see before. Indeed, your perspective changes because you are conscious of this connection now. You may find yourself no longer wanting some of those things that you thought were so important and necessary to your happiness before. You may see new ways to find satisfaction with yourself and your relationships. New people may arrive or old friends may re-visit you who can help you and teach you new things about yourself. Why do you doubt the connection? You are a spirit; you are here to have this physical experience and to learn from it. You are here to bring all of that loving energy into your body and into your life. Your story about scarcity is only a distraction. So much information is available to you when you push aside the old stories and see the world in all its radiant and abundant possibility. What might your life be like if you lived connected to this deeper sense of abundance every day? What might you be able to create for yourself that reflects this deeper understanding?
